Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Today I am excited to share with you all a first for the blog, I am going to be reviewing a product which is yet to be released - The new Benefit Roller Lash!

What does the product description say?
Roller lash is a revolutionary new super curling and lifting mascara which has been in development for four-years! It’s perfect for those of you with short or straight lashes and who struggle to find that perfect daytime mascara.
What makes this mascara so brilliant is the Hook ‘n’ Roll™ brush with custom-designed hooks to help catch, lift and curl the lashes. Paired with a ink-black, lightweight formula to keep the curl for a whopping 12 hours!
Benefit often release products which are surrounded by a lot of hype and I find many of their products are style over substance but was this the case with the new Roller Lash? The idea behind this mascara is to eliminate the use of eye lash curlers and to create a definite curl, it was created for those who aren't blessed with naturally long eye lashes, although luckily I am. The first thing I noticed was the brush which is similar to the new Maybelline Lash Sensational brush.

It has a flat side to catch short lashes and a bristle side to catch long lashes. I am going to be comparing this to the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara, you can read my review here. I have decided to compare these two as they are both curling mascaras, one is a budget brand and the other is high end.

You can see the difference between the images that Maybelline creates length without clumping and is a lot more natural looking. Benefit however, creates brittle lashes which are darker, slightly longer than Maybelline's lashes and more dramatic.
Benefit Roller Lash end result, very clumpy!
Maybelline Lash Sensational end result, no clumps!
I would say that the end result is more dramatic than the Maybelline Lash Sensational, it certainly curls lashes and seems to stay in place all day, I also like how dark the colour is. It also appears to be waterproof and is quite difficult to remove at the end of the day, which can be a negative, it usually puts me off mascaras as I hate spending ages removing my make-up.

The curl created by Benefit Roller Lash, clumps galore!
The curl created by Maybelline Lash Sensational and clump free!
Overall I am disappointed by Benefit Roller Lash, I had high hopes for this. There have been mixed reviews so far of this mascara but I will not be purchasing it once it is released. I like the dramatic curl it creates and the fact that it lasts all day but I would say this is more of a mascara for going out and night looks, where as the Maybelline Lash Sensational, creates a softer and more subtle curl suitable for wearing at work and during the day. Maybelline wins this one and at half the price of Benefit it's a bargain! Roller Lash will be released on the 28th of February and will be priced at £19.50. But I got my sample free with the current issue of Elle magazine, so if you want to try it without splashing out now is the time! Give it a whirl and let me know what you think!
