Today I'm going to review NARS Eyeshadow in the colour Night Breed. I am not familiar with NARS products, but the counter had caught my eye a few times, and this particular eye shadow was screaming at me, especially after I swatched it:
What really caught my attention, was the sparkle, I have never seen a black eye shadow with so much glitter! I was eager to attempt a black smokey eye look, and I noticed the girl on the NARS counter had a glitter black smokey eye effect, I asked which eyeshadow she had used to achieve this look, thinking she had used the Night Breed colour, but she had used three different eyeshadows. I decided to stick with Night Breed as the girl said it was amazing and give it a whirl. Firstly, I love the cute little packaging, the box even has a tiny mirror inside which is a nice touch, although one minor criticism would be that the box is tricky to open and once you do get it open I found that my finger tends to end up sliding into the shadow by mistake:
The image probably doesn't do it justice, but upon opening the eye shadow it appears very sparkly. To achieve my black smokey eye look, I used concealer as a primer with a bit of powder, then I applied a neutral beige colour from my Urban Decay Naked Basics palette. I then applied NARS Night Breed using my Real Techniques deluxe crease brush. I found that despite the eyeshadow being very glittery when I swatch it on my hand and in it's packaging, this did not translate once applied to the eyes. I found, rather disappointingly, that this is just like any other black eyeshadow:
To try and make it more glittery, I used Blingo eyeshadow by Benefit over the top of Night Breed, yet it still wasn't sparkly enough for me. Overall, I like this eyeshadow as it creates a nice smokey eye effect, however I am disappointed with the lack of glitter, and at almost £20 for one eyeshadow, I find this a bit expensive for what it is. I would recommend, purchasing a loose glitter eyeshadow to try and bring the sparkle out a bit more, though I was hoping not to have to buy more products to make one product stand out! The texture is nice and smooth and very easy to apply and blend, and it is of higher quality than drugstore eyeshadows. I find that with a bit of concealer as a primer underneath, this product lasts all day! The colour is buildable meaning it can be as subtle or dramatic as you want it to be. Overall, a nice, if slightly disappointing product:
