YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat foundation in shade 'BD40' (sample)

So, I was having a sneaky browse through products at the YSL counter in Boots, (window shopping  and wish list shopping of course, in light of the designer price tags) I got talking to the lovely assistant and she offered to give me some free samples, WIN! So I thought I'd go ahead and review one of them.

I have owned the YSL touché eclat highlighter in the past and I adored it. It works brilliantly for highlighting cheekbones, brow bones and the cupids bow. I have tried drugstore dupes such as the Loreal 'Lumi Magique Concealer' and found them a good budget alternative, however, they do not truly stand when compared to the quality of original touché éclat!

I was super excited to try the touché éclat foundation which but couldn't afford to splash out as £30.50 is a far cry from the £8.99 I usually spend on my beloved Rimmel 'wake me up' foundation. So when I was offered some samples, I knew I had to try this!

Wearing YLS Touche Eclat foundation before finishing of my make up look!
I was advised to shake up the bottle before use. The texture is very light and runny and the famous touché elcat glow is visible even before application. Upon application (I used the 'Real Techniques' powder brush to apply and blend) the product sits very lightly upon the skin which feels lovely! However, because the product is lighter in texture I would say it only offers a light to medium and needs to be built up and layered if you want a stronger coverage (and I do!).

When I had finished blending, my complexion had a lovely dewy glow which was very pretty, but for me the foundation highlighted, didn't cover imperfections (such as my lovely spot on the side of my chin, see above photo, eek!) For me the foundation was too light in texture and too bright in appearance.

I love a glowy, dewy finish to my skin, but I think it's better to add highlighter and concealer to only the places you wish highlighted after foundation is applied.

When I had finished doing my make up and had added concealer, blusher and lipstick etc... the overall appearance was wearable and pretty, but for the price I won't be in a rush to own this foundation. I do miss my touché éclat highlighter pen though!
